The Engineering Team UMEMYG

The team works on the full range of products that we build for our internal and external clients which we look to continually refine, update and improve. As a full stack developer you will work on the front-end and the back-end in some cases using our legacy Groovy and Grails framework, in others our standard SpringBoot / Java / React stack.

We deploy all of our software in AWS and run our containers in Kuberbetes making use of istio, Prometheus and Grafana for observability.

The Role

As our successful candidate, you will build an excellent knowledge of the UnderwriteMe products with a deep understanding of how we build and deploy our applications.

You will already have a good understanding of and experience with our standard development tools and enjoy working closely with team members. You are familiar with agile practices and will work in a cross-functional product team to build and ship features to the platform, prioritised for customers’ needs.

You will be a self-starter and a committed team member that openly shares information, knowledge and experience and will be able to take responsibility for the quality, completeness and accuracy of your work.

Main Duties

  • Design, build, maintain and support high-quality software components.
  • Work with the agile product team to understand how best to build and deliver new features.
  • Propose and assess solutions to design problems, including identifying and evaluating new technologies and third party components.
  • Ensure software is built in a standard, consistent manner by creating and maintaining tests as part of TDD.
  • Participate in an agile SCRUM environment, supporting deployments where necessary.

Qualifications/Experience

  • Educated to Degree level with proven experience in similar role
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrable ability to deliver high quality products to sometimes challenging timescales.

Essential Technical Experience

  • Core Java knowledge and experience.
  • SpringBoot, JPA and messaging experience.
  • REST API development experience.
  • Front-end development knowledge and experience.
  • Understanding of fundamental CS concepts (data structures, algorithms, design patterns).

Desirable Technical Experience

  • Microservices development experience
  • Development with cloud providers such as
  • Groovy and Grails
  • ReactJS
  • Docker and Kubernetes
